Moving to Abu Dhabi and Starting a Business: How Post Script Was Born

I’m Christie Verbrugh-Post, founder of Post Script, and I want to welcome you to a space where my hope is that you will find inspiration to help your entrepreneurial aspirations take shape. In 2023, my family and I made a bold leap: we moved to Abu Dhabi. No small feat when you wear the golden handcuffs of a twenty year career in the public service… But, it was part of a dream to give our children a global perspective and to embrace the unknown. The journey wasn’t without its challenges. Moving to a new country and starting a business brought on its fair share of uncertainty, and I quickly found myself navigating unfamiliar systems and cultural norms. Luckily, my long career in program and project management had prepared me to face the unknown head-on and make the best with what I had at my disposal.

Meeting Fellow “Trailing Spouses”: Recognizing a Shared Experience

During this time, I met many “trailing spouses” who had also left behind thriving careers in their homelands to move here for their partner’s work. For the first few months, the change often feels refreshing.  It’s a chance to relax, catch up on sleep, meet new people, and explore what a new city has to offer. But eventually, many of us feel the pull to dust off the cobwebs that have settled on our brains and reengage with the experience, skills, and expertise we worked so hard to hone before coming here by setting up their own business and giving back to the community.

The Opportunity in Starting Fresh

What struck me was the unique opportunity that moving here can offer. Without the afore-mentioned “golden handcuffs” of our previous careers, the world suddenly felt wide open. For me, it felt like a chance to dare to shape what came next. For me, what moving here represented was the chance at opening my own business and becoming my own boss.  It’s a path that’s as exhilarating as it is daunting for many people.

It was in these moments of realization that the idea for Post Script was born.

Post Script is more than a business; it’s a safe space and a resource hub designed to empower entrepreneurs like you, who are either here already, or thinking about moving to Abu Dhabi and wondering how to start their business once they settle. Whether you’re starting out or leveling up, my goal is to make the process simpler, more accessible- but most of all, free of overwhelm. I want to replace feelings of uncertainty and fear with those of clarity and hope, by providing you with thoughtful guidance every step of the way.
